Parallèle and 3 bis f present Juliette George's first solo show. The artist, heir to the conceptual art movement and selected as part of the 2022 edition of La Relève, questions the format of her solo show, as well as how to welcome the audience. "How can we improve visitors' reading comfort while enhancing the overall performance of the exhibition? How to appear sympathetic, yet relevant? But first, what's on display in an exhibition?", curator Marion Zilio.

For this Preview, the artist invites three people who have, in one way or another, a professional and personal relationship with seating. Sarah Barry is an upholsterer in Arles. It's a solitary job. So she sometimes finds herself talking to the chairs. Anne-Laure Briand is an occupational therapist in Aix-en-Provence and has a doctorate in social and cultural anthropology. She will be offering visitors postural and sensory experiences. Muriel Thiaude runs a psychoanalysis and analytical psychotherapy practice in Aix-en-Provence. On this occasion, she will discuss the influence of sitting in the therapy.

Biography

"Trained in photography at ENSP Arles - École nationale supérieure de la photographie, Juliette George's plastic work is mainly text-based. This paradox could indicate an obvious tendency to free herself from the expected. Her work, which borrows as much from conceptual art as from the everyday life, bears witness to the acuity of her eye on the contemporary world, and more specifically its economic and political beliefs. In her own words, her aesthetic is bureaucratic, cold, disembodied, smooth and sometimes boring. And through her gestures (such as redacting presidential speeches or economic treaties...), she humorously hijacks the codes and gimmicks associated with power structures. From de-speculation to the shaping of bankruptcy, Juliette George questions the notion of value and the narrative that surrounds and underpins it. At the same time, she endeavors to find in jargonized or technical languages the vestiges of a tenacious, offbeat, amused, even irreverent poetry." Guillaume Mansart, Documents d'artistes PACA

Juliette George was part of La Relève 4 at the Festival Parallèle 2022 at Château de Servières. In 2023, she performed the opening ceremony of the Festival Parallèle 13 at the Grandes Tables of La Friche la Belle de Mai.
